I love this photograph that was taken when my Mom was about the same age I am, and I was about the same age Benjamin is. The love and appreciation of my mother has continued to grow over the years, especially since having children of my own. She is mother to three daughters, grandmother to six. Family always comes first, and she graciously sacrifices her time whenever we need her. Whether it was driving carpool, volunteering in the classroom, organizing parties or making costumes, she was always involved, present and loving. When I had a problem, we would talk about it and come up with a solution. When I had a hard day, she would wipe away my tears and hold me close. I always felt loved. Nurturing my passion for music, she brought me to piano and singing lessons every week for over ten years. She taught me how to serve others by taking me to the local nursing home where I would sing songs, play games, and talk with elderly residents. She instilled the importance of connecting as a family and eating dinner together every night – something I have incorporated into my own family. She continues to demonstrate that any act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Lastly and most importantly, she taught me that the love of family is the greatest love of all.
