Birthday Recap

December 4, 2015

There are three things I like to do on my birthday: spend time with my family, give back and enjoy a good meal. This year, Jeff took the day off and we took the kids to the non-profit Wildlife Learning Center. Their mission is to rescue and provide lifetime sanctuary to wild animals in need and to offer public education in the life sciences and conservation. I could go on and on about what a special place this is!…

Apple Picking Season

September 24, 2015

We started a tradition of doing something new together as a family before Rosh Hashanah to emphasize the newness of the year. What better way to make the holiday come alive than to pick our own apples to dip in honey? These foods are symbolically eaten on Rosh Hashanah to evoke a “sweet” new year. After packing up the boys up in the car, we head out to Oak Glen for a day of fresh air, apples and Americana. When…

Renewal

August 28, 2015

Ten years ago on our wedding day, we made a choice.  We now know that it’s not a one-time decision, but an on-going process. Hawaii

July 30, 2015

You probably wouldn’t guess our boys have Hawaiian blood, especially our youngest with his porcelain skin and blue eyes. Good thing we packed hats, rash guards and ample amounts of sunscreen for a week in the Hawaiian sun. We explored the island in a Stow ‘n Go minivan while Benny napped and Judah played “I Spy with My Little Eye.” Pali Highway led us through tunnels to the lush country landscape and gorgeous white sand beaches of windward Oahu. The…

As We Are

July 13, 2015

Sundays are my favorite days. They are slow days. Jeff makes his morning coffee and breakfast for the boys, while I cuddle up with them in bed. After they eat and get dressed, we walk over to the farmer’s market and gather fruits and vegetables that will be used to prepare nourishing meals throughout the week. The kids have so much fun sampling what’s in season and have come to know our local farmers and vendors. When we get back…

The Family Dinner

March 10, 2012

There is great meaning in the simple daily ritual of gathering together for an evening meal. My husband and I have fond childhood memories of eating together as a family. The days can be hectic so we make a point to slow down and enjoy one another in the evening. We have come to know a rhythm of preparing the meal, setting the table, reflecting upon our blessings, connecting, eating and cleaning up together. Almost every Sunday we walk to the local…
