Warm Apple Crisp

Who doesn’t love a warm Apple Crisp topped with ice cream? This recipe from The Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book is simple, comforting, healthy and delicious!

Gather

  • lots of apples, peeled and sliced
  • cinnamon
  • maple syrup

Topping:

  • 4-5 cups oats
  • 1 stick of butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. oil (I use coconut)pPinch of salt

Method

1. Peel and Slice the apples. (An old-fashioned apple peeler/corer is a fun for little helpers)
2. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
3. Place apples in a 9×13-inch baking pan.
4. Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and maple syrup.
5. Mix together the topping ingredients and sprinkle over the apples.
6. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Enjoy alone or add a scoop of ice cream sprinkled with nutmeg.

    Hello, thank you for the recipe. I have a few questions I’m hoping you might answer: 1) how much cinnamon? It’s not on your ingredients list. 2) What exactly are the “topping ingredients”? Everything aside from the cinnamon and maple syrup? Thank you.

      Hi Paulette, I just opened up the Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book and edited my post to reflect recipe exactly as written in my book and specified the topping ingredients. It doesn’t specify an exact amount of cinnamon or maple syrup but I sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon over the apples and use a few tablespoons of maple syrup. I hope you enjoy this crisp as much as we do!

    I made this for our family’s thanksgiving tonight and it was a show stealer. Upstaged the homemade pumpkin pie even! People had no idea there wasn’t any refined sugar or flour involved. I was determined to bring a dessert that I wouldn’t mind my 20 month old eating and this was perfect. I even had a few people request the recipe. I directed them to your site. I added cranberries for the festiveness of the day but followed your directions otherwise. I’ll definitely be making this again and again.
